Amana Students Advance to State, National Competitions

8th Graders Jaythan Q., David Z (not pictured), Clark B. and Shaaswatan R. won first place at the regional National History Day Competition. Their project, titled “Triggering Change: The Government’s Responsibility to Protect Our Rights,” centered on the National Firearms Act of 1934. They are moving on to the state competition in April.

Eighth grader Amir F.  won first place at the K-12 InVenture Prize at Georgia Tech. The K-12 InVenture Prize is a state invention and entrepreneurship program and competition at Georgia Tech’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) that challenges students to identify real-world problems and design novel solutions through analysis, creativity, and the scientific method. Amir designed an app called Rescue Radar that can be used by people experiencing homelessness to find shelters and resources specific to their needs. He will now head to the national competition in Detroit in June.
