Taste Buds Kitchen

Students will explore how ingredients change through measuring, mixing, heating, and cooling. They will observe physical changes, use measurement skills, follow directions, and work collaboratively to create a finished product. This hands-on experience demonstrates how planning, testing, and making changes can transform simple ingredients into something new.

Etowah Indian Mounds State Historical Site

Students will explore how Indigenous communities lived, grew, and changed over time in Georgia. Through examining artifacts and historical evidence, students will learn how people adapted to their environment and how land use and communities transformed throughout history.

Chatahoochee Nature Center – Life Cycles & Ecosystems

Students will explore the cycles of change found in nature by observing animal life cycles, plant growth, seasonal changes, and how habitats transform over time. Through a Nature Observation Log, students will record what changes, what stays the same, and the patterns they notice. Students will use math skills by measuring plant growth, tracking weather data, and creating graphs to represent changes they observe in the environment.

Atlanta History Center – Georgia Farm Life

Students will tour exhibits highlighting history with an emphasis on farm life.

Exhibition Hub Art Center

Students will explore immersive art installations that combine creativity, technology, and storytelling. Through observation and reflection, they will discover how artists transform ideas into meaningful experiences and communicate themes of growth, change, and perspective. This field study encourages students to think creatively, make connections to their own learning journey, and recognize that change can inspire new ways of seeing and understanding the world.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Students explore fossils as evidence of ancient life, dinosaur extinction and adaptation and how scientists reconstruct the past.

Georgia Aquarium – Life is a Cycle

Animals come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors – all of which can change depending on their life cycle stage. Through engaging activities and exploration students will be challenged to think like scientific researchers by investigating the unique life cycles of plants and animals at Georgia Aquarium.

Zoo Atlanta – Primate Seed Dispersers

Students learn how animals change as they grow and adapt to survive.

Tellus Science Museum – Fossil Dig & Gallery

The Tellus Fossil Dig provides students with hands on experience. Students will have the opportunity to tour the fossil exhibit, learn about archaeology, and dig for fossils.

            Atlanta Botanical Garden – Plant Life Cycles & Growth

            During this tour, students discuss how plants transorm through predictable cycles as they explore the outdoor gardens and the Fuqua Conservatory – particularly the rainforest, desert and Southeastern bog garden.

                  Southeastern Railway Museum

                  Students will investigate how transportation has changed from the past to the present and how engineers use creativity and problem-solving to improve designs. They will explore how railroads transformed communities, connected people, and influenced the growth of Georgia.

                  Chattahoochee River National Park

                  Students will explore how rivers shape the land through movement, erosion, and changes over time. They will investigate how plants, animals, and people depend on rivers and how waterways influence the growth and development of communities. Students will collect observations, analyze changes in the environment, and make connections to Georgia’s regions and natural resources.

                  Atlanta Peer School Visit & Tour

                  Students will explore how different school communities learn, grow, and work together. By comparing their own school experiences with those at Amana West, students will recognize that although schools may have different routines, spaces, and traditions, they all share the goal of helping children grow and learn.
