Amana Academy Celebrates 20 Years of Innovation, Character, and Academic Excellence
Amana Academy, a nationally recognized public charter school, is proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary this school year. Since opening its doors in 2005, Amana has been at the forefront of educational innovation, blending academic rigor with character development, environmental stewardship, and a focus on community engagement.
Rooted in the EL Education model (formerly Expeditionary Learning), Amana Academy places students at the center of meaningful, project-based learning. EL Education’s approach emphasizes deeper learning, student ownership, and high achievement through real-world expeditions that integrate core content with hands-on experiences and service learning. This model has helped Amana students grow into confident changemakers with the knowledge and skills to make a difference.
As one of only a few schools in Georgia to be STEM certified by the Georgia Department of Education, Amana Academy also leads in preparing students for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The school’s interdisciplinary STEM program integrates inquiry-based instruction with real-world problem-solving, empowering students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and innovate responsibly.
To kick off a year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary, Amana hosted a special Alumni Reunion on July 29, welcoming former students, families, and staff to reconnect and reflect on the school’s impact over the past two decades. Attendees shared stories, revisited the values that shaped their educational journeys, and looked ahead to Amana’s continued growth and influence.
“Twenty years ago, we started with a bold vision—to nurture students who are intellectually curious, ethically grounded, and deeply connected to their communities and the world,” said Executive Director Ehab Jaleel. “Today, we are proud to see that vision in action every day, as our students, teachers, and families continue to grow together and lead with purpose.”
Over the past two decades, Amana Academy has expanded its reach with a second campus in West Atlanta and has earned accolades for academic achievement, character education, and its strong partnerships with parents and the wider community.
The school will continue to mark its 20th year with a series of student-led events, alumni features, and community celebrations that reflect the school’s mission and core values.
